We start the new year with an image that acknowledges the beauty that can come from age, from wear and with the passage of time. Taken in the gorgeous early morning light, this image is from St. Petersburg in Russia. Called, "After the Revolution," it is one of an ongoing series of images I am developing that honors the beauty of age and aging.
I suppose I am thinking about all of this more acutely as the new year begins. And certainly St. Petersburg is a city that lends itself to musings about history, change, art, evolution and revolution. I love this image because this figure stands tall, a little battered, but still graceful and strong. The old is behind him, also worn but still standing, providing structure and context. What will the future bring.....?
